A Reactive Power Optimization Method Based on SOCP Relaxation with Feasibility Guarantee

In order to build a new power system dominated by renewable energy, a high proportion of power electronic devices are gradually being integrated into the power system. The static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) can enhance the voltage stability of the grid, while the doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) can also provide reactive power support to the grid. Therefore, considering reactive power optimization with multiple reactive power sources is of significant importance. This paper proposes a reactive power optimization method for multiple reactive power sources based on the Generalized Benders Decomposition (GBD) algorithm, which decomposes the mixed-integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) original problem into a mixed-integer second-order cone programming (MISOCP) master problem and several nonlinear programming (NLP) subproblems. This approach guarantees the AC power flow feasibility of the solutions obtained from MISOCP, allowing for the reasonable allocation of reactive power outputs from various sources. Case study based on the modified IEEE 14-bus system demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed GBD method.
