Explaining patterns of co-creation in Swiss local governance
While research on local co-creation and co-production has grown exponentially, only a few studies have investigated the geographical distribution of this instrument and the factors that account for cross-municipal differences. An analysis of survey data gathered from 1,771 municipal clerks (senior civil servants) in Switzerland shows that co-creation is practised more in larger and German-speaking municipalities and municipalities where public interest in local affairs is greater. This study contributes to a better understanding of the factors increasing co-creation and to how local governments can better use citizens’ assets and resources.
