Nickel–Cobalt Nanoprism Comprising ppm Level of Palladium as an Efficient Catalyst for Sonogashira Reaction
ABSTRACT Using ppm levels of precious palladium in coupling reactions is highly desirable from both sustainable and economic standpoints. In this work, NiCo nanoprism containing a very low amount of palladium was prepared, and physical and chemical properties of this new material were characterized by different techniques. The trimetallic prism exhibited excellent catalytic activity in the Sonogashira reaction utilizing 7–10 ppm of palladium, and very good to excellent yields, along with a high turnover number (TON), were achieved. Synergetic effect between Pd, Co, and Ni was demonstrated, with the trimetallic catalyst significantly outperforming its monometallic counterparts. The catalyst was successfully recovered and recycled three times, and structure of reused catalyst was studied.
