Digital Edge in Sports: Exploring the Impact of ICT on Performance and Athlete Safety

The integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in sports has transformed the way athletes train, perform, and prevent injuries. This study explores the impact of advanced ICT tools, such as video analysis, data analytics, and wearable technology, on athletic performance and injury prevention. Through a survey conducted among University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) athletes, the research examines how the use of ICT enhances training efficiency, improves strategic decision-making, and contributes to injury reduction. The findings indicate that video analysis plays a crucial role in helping athletes refine techniques, develop confidence, and enhance mental preparedness through visualization and self-assessment. Additionally, data analytics and wearable devices provide real-time insights into performance metrics, fatigue levels, and biomechanics, allowing athletes and coaches to make informed training adjustments. The study also highlights that while ICT contributes to injury prevention, there is potential for greater adoption and optimization in this area. The results suggest that ICT is not only a performance-enhancing tool but also a strategic asset in modern sports training. As technology continues to evolve, its role in injury prevention, data-driven decision-making, and performance improvement will become even more significant. The study concludes by emphasizing the need for wider adoption and more structured implementation of ICT in sports, ensuring that athletes fully leverage its benefits for competitive advantage and long-term well-being.
