Distinctive Features of Bəṭaḥrēt
Abstract Bəṭaḥrēt is the most endangered of the six Modern South Arabian languages. Its last few speakers are found in a small area in the easternmost corner of Oman's Dhofar. The language remained poorly studied until very recently; now what remains of this language has been documented (Morris, 2016; 2024) and described (Morris & Gasparini, forthcoming) in recent publications. The availability of this new data allows for a systematic comparison with the rest of the Modern South Arabian languages. This paper investigates the most striking features of Bəṭaḥrēt from a comparative perspective.
