Digital Protection and Virtual Display of Ancient Architectural Murals in Hancheng, Shaanxi Based on Edge Computing and AI Technology
This study employs edge computing and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies for the digital preservation and virtual display of ancient mural paintings in Hancheng, Shaanxi. Shaanxi boasts a rich cultural heritage but faces significant challenges in preservation, particularly in remote areas such as Hancheng, where traditional murals suffer from aging, erosion and human destruction. Although some famous sites are undertaking digital preservation efforts, rural areas still lack comprehensive protection. This research utilizes high-precision photography, 3D scanning and AI-generated content (AIGC) to achieve efficient and accurate restoration, reducing complexity and enhancing the restoration process. Furthermore, the study aims to create a virtual museum using immersive virtual reality (VR) technology to facilitate the global dissemination of cultural heritage. The results demonstrate a successful restoration of color and texture. The virtual museum design incorporates interactive features to enhance public engagement, offering a new model for cultural preservation and sharing. This paper underscores the role of AI and interactive technologies in cultural heritage conservation, providing a framework for future digital museum projects and broader preservation efforts.
