The role of cuticular hydrocarbons in physiological adaptation of desert locusts
AbstractPresent study discusses how CHCs contribute to reducing water loss through cuticular transpiration, enabling locusts to thrive in high-temperature, low-humidity habitats. Experimental findings reveal that variations in CHC profiles correlate with changes in environmental conditions, emphasizing their adaptive significance. CHCs play a vital role in mediating behaviors such as mating and foraging, influencing reproductive success and population dynamics.
