Efficacy of some insecticides for the management of brinjal shoot and fruit borer Leucinodes orbonalis (Guenee)

AbstractThe experiment was laid out in the agricultural field of G.D. Goenka university campus, Gurugram, Haryana during the kharif season 2023 on the brinjal crop to evaluate the efficacy of insecticides against Leucinodes orbonalis Guenee. The experiment was laid out in assess the efficacy of seven treatments including control against L. orbonalis. The treatments were as follows (i) Emamectin benzoate 5 SG (0.5 g/l), (ii) Spinosad 45 SC (0.5 ml/l), (iii) Acephate 75 SP (1 g/l), (iv) Indoxacarb 14.5 SG (1 ml/l), (v) Chlorantraniliprole 18.5 SC (0.4 ml/l), (vi) Thiomethoxam 25 WG (0.4 g/l), (vii) Untreated control for which pure water was used for spraying. All the treatments were found superior over control with Chlorantraniliprole 18.5 SC being most effective with 83.04 % reduction over control followed by Spinosad 45 SC (70.12%), Emamectin benzoate 5 SG (59.17%), Indoxacarb (14.5) SG (55.42%), Thiomethoxam 25 WG (52.49%), and Acephate 75 SP (42.12%) with respect to reduction of Leucinodes orbonalis population over control. The maximum cost-befit ratio was recorded in chlorantraniliprole with 1:14.67 followed by Emamectin Benzoate with 1: 14.04 cost benefit ratio.
