Genomic discernment into the evolution of disease vectors in agricultural settings: A public health approach
AbstractRecent advancements in genomics have provided unprecedented opportunities to dissect the genetic underpinnings of vector evolution and adaptation. This paper reviews the application of genomic techniques to study the evolution of disease vectors in agricultural settings and its implications for public health. We delve into how genomic data offer insights into the genetic diversity, population structure, and adaptive traits of vectors, thereby illuminating their interactions with hosts and the environment. The role of genomic surveillance in monitoring vector populations is important to tackle emerging threats and tracking the spread of insecticide resistance. Integrating genomic information with ecological and epidemiological data facilitates a comprehensive understanding of vector dynamics and informs targeted interventions to mitigate disease transmission.
