Joint modeling of passenger car and freight routes combined with parking choices in congested urban settings
The planning and management of public infrastructure to satisfy diverse mobility requirements in urban centers poses significant challenges due to spatial constraints and the complexity of concurrent activities. In this context, we propose a comprehensive model designed to evaluate decisions regarding the allocation and utilization of public infrastructure considering vehicular traffic, pedestrians, and parking within congested urban environments. The proposed model integrates characteristics of both passenger and freight trips, capturing the intricate dynamics of vehicle routes, parking preferences, and their relationships through traffic equilibrium. To illustrate the applicability of the proposed model, we present a study in the Old Town neighborhood of Montevideo, Uruguay, where a public space intervention is planned in the near future. The analysis carried out offers relevant information on the potential impacts of the intervention, thus supporting decision-making.
