Children's perspectives on their families' involvement with child protective services in Portugal: A critical step to a meaningful participation
• Findings are mixed to whether children are aware of the reasons for being involved with the Child Protective Services (CPS). • Children reveal comprehensive accounts of their families’ problems and their own perspectives and concerns regarding CPS involvement. • Children report either emotional responses of mistrust or support regarding CPS attendance. • CPS-involved children identify positive changes in their families resulting from parenting support. • A critical approach to children’s perspectives is crucial for enhancing meaningful participation in CPS. • Child-centered models of communication, focusing on child agency, are key to participation.
