Resolving Velocity Ambiguity via Virtual Error Compensation in Multi-Domain Coding Radar

This paper deals with the problem of resolving velocity ambiguity in Multi-Domain Coding (MDC) radar. At the modeling stage, the MDC radar is developed by coding in spatial, slow-time and fast-time domains. Specifically, the separation of the transmit signals in MDC radar is achieved through Doppler Division Multiple Access (DDMA), which reduces the maximum unambiguous velocity. Hence, the performance of detecting high-speed moving targets degrades. In order to solve this problem, a method based on virtual error compensation across the transmit antenna elements is developed. In particular, the velocity ambiguity index of the target is determined according to the minimum power of the received signals after beamforming because the virtual error is properly compensated. At the analysis stage, simulation results prove that the unambiguous velocity can be accurately estimated, demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed method.
