Ensuring simulation continuity in radar and electronic warfare simulation

When developing military radars, the influence of electronic warfare (EW) systems on target detection must be studied. Therefore, all the simulations from each step of the radar’s development cycle must consider EW systems. Furthermore, the growing number of numerical models with diverse level of realism or details introduces the question of simulation continuity, which we define as the means to smoothen the transitions between different simulations levels. In this paper, we deal with simulation continuity in two dimensions: along the development cycle and across the dual topics radar and EW. We propose a methodology and an architecture to manage simulations based on a building block approach.

Abstract

When developing military radars, the influence of electronic warfare (EW) systems on target detection must be studied. Therefore, all the simulations from each step of the radar’s development cycle must consider EW systems. Furthermore, the growing number of numerical models with diverse level of realism or details introduces the question of simulation continuity, which we define as the means to smoothen the transitions between different simulations levels. In this paper, we deal with simulation continuity in two dimensions: along the development cycle and across the dual topics radar and EW. We propose a methodology and an architecture to manage simulations based on a building block approach.
