Investigation of a 3D MIMO TDM FMCW Radar
The proposed paper deals with 3D MIMO (multiple-input-multiple-output) TDM (time-division multiplexing) based on FMCW (frequency modulated continuous wave) radar. The basics of conventional FMCW radar are reviewed in order to introduce the principle of MIMO TDM (with "virtual antenna array"). Theoretical expressions of signals from the different "virtual antennas" in a 3D configuration, i.e. allowing to determine the angles (colatitude and longitude) in spherical coordinates, are demonstrated in detail. In this configuration, the transmit antennas are arranged in the plane xOz/yOz and the receive antennas in the axis Ox/Oy. The proposed developments are validated by simulation results at 60 GHz with error quatification.
