Filters Design that Mitigate Pulse Eclipsing Modulation of Pulse Agile Waveforms
When pulse agile waveforms are applied to moving target indication (MTI) and moving target detection (MTD) radars, they face the problem of range sidelobe modulation (RSM). Previous research has mainly focused on solving this problem by designing corresponding mismatched filters (MMFs). However, the effectiveness of MMFs will be compromised when pulse eclipsing occurs. In this paper, we propose a new method for designing MMFs and suppress the RSM caused by pulse eclipsing through segmented pulse compression with different MMFs. We mitigate the impact of pulse eclipsing by extracting close-range clutter information from the echo and incorporating it into the filters design process. Compared with the existing MMFs, the proposed filters can reduce RSM by 10–20 dB.
