A Magnetron with Two RF Energy Outputs for Advanced Radar Systems

The paper investigates the low-voltage X- and Ku-band double-output magnetrons in the pulse and continuous operating modes and their practical application in both continuous and pulsed radar systems is considered. The main features of designs of such magnetrons are described, and the possible modes of their operation are considered. The application of the double-output magnetron allowed the frequency tuning to be 300 MHz under the average output power of 20 W in the X-band and 250 MHz and 15 W in the K<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">u</inf>-band, respectively. Using the stabilizing resonator in the passive RF output of the magnetron enables the frequency stability not worse than 10-7. The evaluation of the use of such magnetron in the synchronization and modulation modes is given. The two-frequency mode of the pulse double-outputs X-band magnetron with frequency tuning from pulse to pulse is considered. The magnetron generator scheme is based on applying p-i-n diodes for electronic control of the switching mode.
