Epidemiological Profile of Gestational Syphilis in Imperatriz-Ma Between the Years 2017 and 2023

Objective: To determine the epidemiological profile of gestational syphilis in Imperatriz-MA between 2017 and 2023. Theoretical Framework: Among the theories, Theory of Epidemiological Surveillance, Model of Sexually Transmitted Disease Transmission, and Theory of Collective Health stand out, providing foundation for understanding the investigation in this project. Method: This is a documentary, descriptive, retrospective, and quantitative study on gestational syphilis between 2017 and 2023. Data collection was conducted through Datasus, and analysis was performed using the Excel application. As public data was used, no evaluation by CEP/CONEP was required. Results and Discussion: The year 2019 recorded the highest number of notifications, while 2017 presented the lowest. There was a growing trend from 2017 to 2019, followed by a decrease in 2020, with a new increase in 2021 and a significant rise in 2023, reflecting fluctuations in cases and possible interferences during the pandemic. The epidemiological profile revealed that gestational syphilis predominantly affects pregnant women aged 20 to 39, of mixed ethnicity, and with low educational levels. Research Implications: The practical and theoretical implications of this research may encompass the formulation of public health policies, strengthening of primary care, training of health professionals, improvement in prenatal care quality, and monitoring of infectious diseases. Originality/Value: This study contributes by offering an analysis of the epidemiological profile of gestational syphilis in Imperatriz-MA, highlighting trends and factors associated with the infection. The relevance of the research enables the support of public policies, prevention strategies, and the strengthening of epidemiological surveillance focused on maternal and child health.
