Delay and Cycle Time Analysis for Immersive Experience Using IPACT DBA
The evolution of sixth-generation (6G) networks brings a transformative shift toward immersive communication, with eXtended Reality (XR) at its forefront. However, supporting XR in 6G networks creates high data demands and strict latency requirements. This study explores 10G-Ethernet-based PON (10G-EPON) systems to manage XR traffic efficiently while ensuring cost-effective quality of service (QoS). This paper leverages the IPACT DBA algorithm with a gated service discipline in the PON systems to reduce the end-to-end delay and cycle time allocation. It analyzes vital metrics like delay, cycle time, and average packet size to gain more profound insights into the EPON systems's impact on XR traffic to provide an enhanced user immersion. The analysis highlights the issues with IPACT DBA for XR traffic distribution and underlines the aspects that need to be improved to overcome these challenges.
