Fluid-Structure Interaction Effects in Deformation Dynamics of Shock-Loaded Circular Plate
The application of shock waves has attracted significant attention in several domains, especially in biomedical applications. This study examines the deformation dynamics of a plate under shock-wave loading. The research utilized coupled fluid-structure interaction (FSI) to elucidate the intricate behaviour. For this purpose, a thin plate is clamped at the end of a converging shock tube, allowing for a focused observation of its midpoint deformation and velocity. The converging design of the shock tube is chosen to generate the necessary shock pressure that transfers energy to the plate. It results in significant elastic deformations and acceleration upon striking the plate. A finite element analysis model is employed to precisely simulate the impacts of fluid-structure interaction, providing a comprehensive depiction of the velocity profile during deformation. The results indicate that an aluminium plate attains a maximum velocity of 123 m/s at the centre location, accompanied by a peak deformation of 0.58 mm. The measurements of deformation and velocity are crucial for drug ejection applications. The research offers significant perceptions into the performance of shock-loaded plates, facilitating progress in fields requiring high precision.
