Development of an Optimization Algorithm for Interconnected Multi-Energy Systems Across Regions for Energy Independence
Korea faces an energy imbalance due to the concentration of energy demand in the Seoul metropolitan area and the concentration of renewable energy resources in regional areas. To mitigate this issue, the Korean government has developed the 10th Basic Plan for Electricity Supply and Demand and the 2050 Carbon Neutrality Scenario, aiming to achieve regional energy autonomy and sustainable energy transitions. The Multi-Energy System (MES), which integrates various energy sources such as electricity, heat, and hydrogen, is essential for addressing the grid instability caused by the increased penetration of renewable energy. Furthermore, MES plays a critical role in realizing regional energy autonomy. This paper proposes the development of an optimization algorithm to enhance regional energy autonomy and optimize inter-regional energy integration through MES. This approach is expected to enhance the stability of Korea's energy supply and provide solutions for achieving carbon neutrality.
