Inset-feed FR-II Range High Gain MIMO Antenna for 5G Applications

This paper describes a miniaturized two-element multiple input multiple output (MIMO) antenna designed on a 0.5mm thick Duroid substrate. The proposed antenna has an overall dimension of 7.6 mm x 6.2 mm x 0.5 mm. The two elements of the antenna are arranged at a right angle to each other. The performance characteristics such as Reflection Coefficient (S(1,1)), Voltage Standing Wave ratio, radiation pattern, impedance, etc. are examined using the HFSS tool. The suggested MIMO antenna configuration offers a broad 10dB impedance bandwidth spanning 4 GHz, alongside an 8 dB peak gain. Furthermore, the isolation among the individual MIMO antenna components exceeds 29 dB. The simulation results exhibit favorable performance, suggesting that the proposed antenna design is suitable for functioning within the 28 GHz millimeter-wave frequency band, covering the spectrum from 25 GHz to 30 GHz. This range is particularly well-suited for 5th-generation wireless applications.
