Design, Analysis, and Implementation of Inset-fed FR-I Range Antenna for X-band Applications

The proposed design involves the fabrication of the rectangular patch antenna in which the FR4(εr=4.4) substrate is the core part. The microstrip line feed technique is used to feed this patch antenna. Its resonate frequency performance is studied at 10 GHz frequency. This band of frequencies is the X band of wireless applications. The design and simulation are done in Ansys HFSS (High-Frequency Structure Simulator) software with FR4 substrate. The antenna measurements are calculated by the length, and width expressions. The physical dimensions of the antenna are 20mm x 20mm x 1.6mm in length, width, and height also the inset fed gap and inset distance are calculated as 2.25mm and 2.8mm respectively. The results achieved from HFSS simulation are a return loss is -33, gain of 5.64dB, VSWR 1.2, and directivity 6.75 dB.
