Leveraging AI and Interior Design to Enhance User Engagement and Promote Sustainable Cultural Preservation in the Virtual Museum of Lasem

Indonesia's abandoned historic buildings present significant challenges to preservation efforts, accelerating urban decay and threatening the nation's cultural heritage. These derelict structures suffer from weather damage, vandalism, and neglect, disrupting community aesthetics and weakening local cohesion. Addressing these issues requires a multifaceted approach involving local communities, government agencies, and preservation organizations. In this context, repurposing techniques are vital for attracting visitors and maintaining historical sites like the Lasem Museum. By integrating artificial intelligence (AI), innovative solutions such as personalized exhibits, real-time updates, multilingual support, and interactive augmented or virtual reality experiences can be implemented. These AI-driven features are designed to enhance visitor engagement and awareness, supporting both the museum's restoration and the adaptive reuse of similar heritage sites. Harnessing AI to create adaptive content is expected to improve public perception, enrich the visitor experience, and aid in the preservation and revitalization of abandoned heritage buildings, ultimately mitigating their detrimental impact on cultural heritage.
