Decoding Sentiments in Product Reviews: A Smart Analysis Approach

Recently, sentiment analysis has been the backbone for understanding public opinions and behaviors, especially for online reviews on products. In this paper, a classification of product reviews based on the machine learning approach is taken. The study preprocesses text data using tokenization, stop word removal, and lemmatization on a data set from Kaggle, where the data is down-sampled to 70,000 reviews. A voting ensemble classifier comprising Logistic Regression, Multinomial Naive Bayes, and Support Vector Machines (SVM) were implemented to harness the power of more than one algorithm. Through this experiment, the proposed model demonstrated robustness to fit nuanced sentiment patterns in reviews, mainly achieving an accuracy of 85.75%. This work extends existing methods by combining ensemble learning with text-based feature extraction using TF-IDF for a good computational tradeoff in predictive accuracy. The findings echo the increasing need for scalable, accurate sentiment classification models in e-commerce analysis and social media analysis. However, while these advancements of large-scale pre-trained language models has received attention, challenges such as the cultural context interpretation, sarcasm detection and processing the multilingual reviews persist. This work lays the groundwork for future research that will overcome these challenges and enable greater consumer sentiment analysis.
