A Survey on Blockchain for Access Control Models: Security, Transparency, and Challenges
Access control is a crucial security mechanism that safeguards the confidentiality, availability, and integrity of resources in contemporary systems. This study provides a comprehensive comparison of various access control models, including ABEAC (Attribute-Based Encryption Access Control), CapBAC (Capability-Based Access Control), Blockchain-Based Access Control, ABAC (Attribute-Based Access Control), RBAC (Role-Based Access Control). The advantages and disadvantages of each mechanism are analyzed based on factors such as privacy, fine-grained access control, scalability, adaptability etc. The possible integration of blockchain technology with conventional access control methods is examined, highlighting its capacity to enhance security, accountability, and transparency in decentralized environments. Our survey offers a detailed analysis of access control methodologies concerning key attributes such as dynamic access, audit ability, privacy context aware access, etc. To enhance the robustness of access control systems, research deficiencies are identified, particularly in conjunction with blockchain technology. While blockchain integration offers numerous advantages essential to deal different challenges, and system complexities for optimal access control.
