Design of a Bidirectional Triple Full-Bridge CLLC Converter with Dual-Output Transformer

The DC-DC converters find widespread use across various fields, including automotive systems, battery chargers, and LED driver circuits. For powertrain systems of electric vehicles, the isolated bidirectional topologies are commonly preferred due to their merits. This paper proposes an isolated bidirectional triple CLLC converter to achieve galvanic isolation, bidirectional power flow, and high efficiency. This topology is obtained by integrating three bidirectional CLLC converters, which is particularly well-suited for applications demanding compact design and high efficiency. Integrating three CLLC converters reduces circuit size and hardware cost while enabling multi-directional power flow. In this paper, a prototype CLLC converter with 1 kW rated output power is introduced, featuring six directions of power transmission. Moreover, the effectiveness and performance of the proposed topology are verified by using PLECS simulation software.
