Design and Analysis of Coil Sensors for Position Recognition in Wireless Charging

In wireless charging, preventing misalignment is extremely important in terms of power-transfer efficiency and charging time. We propose a wireless-charging system for detecting the receiver's position using a multi-coil sensor. We focused on the fact that a sensor structure with large errors is not practical when recognizing positions using a deep neural network (DNN). To improve the number and placement of sensor coils, the position-recognition errors are evaluated using a DNN. Simulation results show that adding four sensor coils improves the accuracy of position detection compared to two or three, the outer diameter of the sensor coils should not be too large, and the distance from the center of the sensor coil to the center of the receiver coil should be short.
