Addressing XR Challenges Through Performance Evaluation in PON Systems
The next generation of computing, known as eXtended Reality (XR) will revolutionize our engagement with the digital world. The XR will become a reality in the future, but still facing many challenges, especially during the incorporation with other technologies. The advancement of next-generation 6G networks highlight the importance of addressing the increased throughput and strict latency demands of immersive applications. This paper provides an in-depth analysis of XR services by examining various parameters within the framework of PON technology using IPACT DBA. We assessed critical performance metrics such as the network bandwidth utilization (BWU), maximum permissible delay, delay standard deviation (S.D.), maximum allowable jitter, and the average buffer length to evaluate buffer occupancy for each ONU effectively. In addition to the performance analysis, we identified the challenges related to XR technology and the limitations of wireless systems in delivering XR services. The results emphasize the effectiveness of the proposed approach to improving end-to-end latency performance with effective channel utilization, thus enabling a more immersive and dependable XR experiences in upcoming communication networks.
