Augmented Reality Application for Education and Training

The augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR) technologies for training and education in the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) sector are systematically reviewed in this paper. Through meticulous examination, 82 pertinent studies were identified from the Scopus and Web of Science databases. Subsequently, the VOS viewer tool was employed to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the current landscape of AR/VR applications in AEC education and training. Following this, the identified studies were methodically categorized into distinct domains based on their respective applications through qualitative analysis. Moreover, a subset of 17 studies was subjected to meta-analysis to quantitatively assess the actual impact of AR/VR technologies.AR and VR technologies have garnered significant interest from a variety of businesses in the past few years, especially AEC (architecture, engineering, and construction). One area where AR/VR shows significant promise is in AEC education and training. Incorporating AR/VR into educational curricula and training programs presents unique training in virtual environments. construction scenarios, architectural designs, and engineering processes. These simulations enable students and trainees to interact with virtual models, explore spatial relationships, and gain practical insights into complex construction projects. Additionally, AR/VR platforms support collaborative learning experiences by enabling multiple users to interact within the same virtual environment, fostering teamwork and communication skills crucial for AEC professionals.
