Group-Processing-Based RMCSA Algorithm for Fair Spectrum Provisioning in SDM-EONs
To serve the exponentially growing Internet traffic with diverse service types, there is a need for highly scalable and adaptive networking solutions. Space Division Multiplexed Elastic Optical Networks (SDM-EONs) have the ability to offer the needed capacity and flexibility. However, the greater capacity and flexibility are accompanied by more complex resource provisioning techniques due to spectrum and/or core continuity and contiguity constraints. As a result of these constraints, the networks' resources tend to become highly fragmented, leading to their inefficient utilization. Further, the fair allocation of resources for heterogeneous bandwidth requirements is also undermined. In this work, we propose a group-processing-based routing, modulation, core, and spectrum assignment (GP-RMCSA) algorithm for the dynamic provisioning of services in SDM-EONs. The proposed algorithm processes the incoming requests in groups and prioritizes them based on a proposed metric. The GP-RMCSA algorithm effectively enhances the fairness among heterogeneous bandwidth requests without compromising on blocking probability.
