Advanced Control Strategies and Dynamic Modeling of STATCOM for Reactive Power Compensation and Voltage Regulation
This paper investigates the use of Static Compensator (STATCOM) technology, focusing on its control methods, system reactions, and dynamic model evaluations. In electric power transmission networks, reactive power exchange is assessed for the STATCOM, a voltage source converter (VSC) system. The work investigates the dynamics of the phase locked loop (PLL) in low power AC systems and concentrates on the application of dq-frame control approaches. In addition, the study focuses on creating and assessing compensators for Point of common coupling (PCC) voltage management, providing insight into STATCOM's functionality in different operational conditions. The system uses both simplified and detailed model assessments to thoroughly analyze and compare the STATCOM's responses to load energization, the impacts of switching harmonics, and its dynamic behavior. The technique used in the study provides valuable insights about the STATCOM's performance and stability in a variety of operational settings. This serves as a foundation for creating effective control techniques and achieving future advances in power system applications.
