Strength and Deformation Properties of Polyester Resins Subjected to Gamma Irradiation and Microwave Treatment

The effect of 60Co γ-rays and microwave radiation on industrial polyester resins of the Kamfest-05I and Kamfest-15 VES brands has been studied. It has been shown that the mechanical characteristics of these resins improve with an increase in the γ-radiation dose up to 2000 kGy and worsen with a further increase in the absorbed dose. At the same time, in terms of the intensity of the tensile strength enhancement effect due to irradiation, the samples of the Kamfest-15I resin are superior to the Kamfest-05VES sample; in the case of bending strength, the opposite is observed, Kamfest-15 VES has higher strength than Kamfest-15I. Both brands of resins are characterized by a slight increase and further decline in strength characteristics with an increase in the time of microwave treatment. It is shown that the radiation resistance of resins depends on their composition and that γ-radiation doses up to 2000 kGy can be used to increase their strength.
