Studying the Effect of Ultraviolet Irradiation on the Properties of a Carbon Monoxide Oxidation Catalyst Based on Titanium Dioxide, Plasma-Chemical Titanium Carbonitride, and Palladium

A CO oxidation catalyst based on TiO2 with additives of 10 wt % TiC0.2N0.8 and 10 wt % Pd has been synthesized. The catalyst has been studied by TEM, XRD, and XPS methods. The effect of UV radiation on the catalytic properties has been studied; long-term tests (100 days) have been conducted. It has been revealed that UV radiation leads to an increase in the CO oxidation reaction rate, a decrease in the activation energy for the reaction rate constant, and an improvement in the long-term stability of the catalytic properties. It has been found that the activation energy for the reaction rate constant is 23 ± 1 kJ/mol in the temperature range of 288–308 K in the presence of the catalyst exposed to UV radiation. The catalyst has high prospects for use in photocatalytic air purifiers.

The catalyst has high prospects for use in photocatalytic air purifiers.
