A INFLUÊNCIA DO EXERCÍCIO FÍSICO NA SÍNDROME DA FRAGILIDADE NO ORGANISMO IDOSO

According to the Elderly Statute, an elderly person is considered to be someone aged 60 (sixty) years or older. Thus, considering the aging population and social changes related to the decrease in regular physical activity, there has been an increase in the prevalence of chronic diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes, and obesity. The aging process can bring about a series of changes, including the Frailty Syndrome, which renders the elderly more vulnerable and susceptible to various health issues such as diseases, falls, and domestic accidents. This condition can lead to a higher demand for specialized care in this age group, emphasizing the importance of early intervention to reduce such need. Therefore, the aim of the study is to evaluate the influence of regular physical exercise on the frailty syndrome related to the elderly participants of the UniAPI project at a private university in Anápolis-GO. The project involved a group of 60 elderly individuals of both sexes participating in the UniAPI program at the Evangelical University of Goiás in Anápolis-GO. Initially, participants answered a questionnaire, and assessments of handgrip strength, weight, exhaustion, gait, and daily physical activity level were conducted to categorize this group into the frailty phenotype. Anthropometric data of these participants were also measured. The study population consisted of 44 women (73.3%) and 16 men (26.7%). The age of the participants ranged from 60 to 79 years, with a mean age of 67.9 years. A total of 66.6% of participants (n=40) were classified as pre-frail, 8 as frail (13.3%), and 12 as non-frail (20%). In conclusion, it was observed that there is a relationship between improving the profile of frailty syndrome in elderly individuals who engage in regular physical exercise.
