Investigations on Double Pipe Heat Exchanger using Nano Particles of Varied Concentrations with Base Fluid as Water
Heat Exchangers (HXs) are devices created to facilitate the transmission of heat between fluids with varying temperatures. Depending on the type of HX employed, the heat transfer process can be liquid to gas, gas to gas, or liquid to liquid. Double pipe HX is one of the heat exchange devices that allows transferring heat between hot and cold liquids. Double pipe HXs are used in boilers, compressors, refrigeration systems and power plants due to their flexibility and compactness. Most of the research works are conducted on increasing the performance of double pipe HX by using different nanoparticles like TiO2, CuO, and Al2O3, with various base fluids like water, propylene glycol and distilled water. The study explores nanoparticle concentrations ranging from 0.05% to 0.2% by volume. Results indicated that as the concentration of Graphene nanoparticles increases, the overall Heat Transfer Coefficient (HTC) improves. The HTC is increased by 48% at 0.2% volume concentration compared to the base fluid. This improvement in heat transfer is attributed to the enhanced thermal properties of the fluid with nanoparticles. The results suggested that Graphene-based Nano fluids can significantly boost the heat transfer efficiency of double pipe heat exchangers. Major Findings: Incorporating Graphene nanoparticles into base fluids enhances heat transfer in double pipe heat exchangers. A 0.2% volume concentration of Graphene nanoparticles increases the Heat Transfer Coefficient (HTC) by 48% compared to the base fluid. The improvement is due to the enhanced thermal conductivity provided by the Graphene-based Nano fluid
