The Diagnosis and Treatment of Hypertension and Its Complications Based on the Theory of Qi, Blood and Fluids

Hypertension is a disease characterized by elevated arterial pressure in the systemic circulation, often accompanied by complications such as coronary heart disease and heart failure. The theory of qi, blood and fluid can be traced back to the “Huangdi Neijing”, and is also mentioned in the “Jinkui Yaolue”. Qi, blood and fluid are interrelated and interdependent, and they are the basic substances that constitute the human body and maintain its functional activities. This article discusses the diagnosis and treatment of hypertension and its complications based on the theory of qi, blood and fluid. According to the symptoms, the early stage of hypertension is classified as qi deficiency and qi excess; the middle stage of hypertension combined with coronary heart disease is diagnosed as qi deficiency blood stasis; the late stage of hypertension combined with heart failure is diagnosed as qi deficiency water overflow. Corresponding prescriptions are selected, hoping to provide some new experience in dialectical prescriptions.
