TAGGING OF HILSA: AN APPROACH TO STUDY MIGRATION PATTERN UPSTREAM OF THE GANGA RIVER
Hilsa is an iconic migratory fish species that undertakes upstream river movement for spawning. This study used T-Bar Floy tags to investigate the migration patterns, habitat preferences and biology of Hilsa in the upstream region of the Farakka Barrage in the River Ganga. The study examined biological parameters, such as size, weight and reproductive status, to understand the relationship between migration and spawning. This research highlights the effectiveness of T-Bar Floy tagging in studying the migration pattern of Hilsa.
