Mechanisms of Gene Expression Regulation in Embryonic Development
Gene expression regulation is a crucial mechanism in embryonic development, ensuring precise cell differentiation, tissue formation, and organ development. This review synthesizes the latest advancements in regulatory mechanisms of gene expression during embryonic development, including novel insights into transcription factor networks (proteins that control the transcription of genetic information from DNA to mRNA), emerging epigenetic modifications (heritable changes in gene expression without altering the DNA sequence, such as DNA methylation and histone modification), the roles of newly discovered non-coding RNAs (RNA molecules that are not translated into proteins but regulate gene expression), and the integration of signal pathway-mediated controls (cellular communication pathways that influence gene expression). By highlighting recent breakthroughs and integrating multi-omics data, this review elucidates how these mechanisms interact within complex regulatory networks to ensure spatiotemporal specificity and precision in embryogenesis. Additionally, we discuss the implications of these findings for cutting-edge applications in stem cell research, tissue engineering, and regenerative medicine, providing a comprehensive framework that distinguishes this review from existing literature.
