Mechanical Properties of Vascular Stents Investigation Method Development with the Finite Element Simulation

In this paper, a two-dimensional cyclic segment model is proposed for intravascular balloon-expandable stent. The maximum equivalent plastic deformations, maximum equivalent stresses and elastic recoil after expansion were chosen as quality criteria. A simplified finite element model of elasticplastic deformation was described for the expanding of the twodimensional segment, assuming a plane deformed state. The step-by-step deformations of the two-dimensional segment correspond to the laser-cut tubular stent crimping on the balloon and the subsequent expansion of the stent in the vascular vessel. The purpose of the study is to develop recommendations for further mechanical properties of vascular stents studies using the developed method.
