Development and Study of Zinc Oxide-Based Compositions to Ensure Dynamic Sorption Capacity at Low Temperatures

Zinc oxide has a high specific surface area, being a highly porous material, and it also exhibits catalytic properties when interacting with sulfur compounds. Therefore, this material is unique in the field of gaseous media purification from hydrogen sulfide and mercaptans and makes it an indispensable material in various technological processes. The authors of the article proposed adsorbent compositions based on zinc oxide with different sodium hydroxide content, which can effectively operate at low temperatures. Studies show that modification of the zinc oxide structure, for example, changes in its morphology, can significantly increase its efficiency in the adsorption of sulfur compounds, opening up new horizons for environmentally friendly technologies. Thus, zinc oxide is not only an important tool in the fight against pollution but also contributes to the development of sustainable chemical processes. The adsorption composition obtained by extrusion, containing 17% alkali by weight with medium-sized granules with an area of <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$50\ \text{mm}^{2}$</tex>, effectively absorbs sulfur compounds at low temperatures of 20-, <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$40\ ^\circ \mathrm{C}$</tex> and fully complies with the strength characteristics specified for sorbents according to GOST. The abrasion of the sample is no more than 2%.
