Soft Tissue Biomechanical Characteristics for Personification in the Neuromuscular Interface Research
The paper analyzes the forearm soft tissues mechanical properties, which is an important stage in establishing the neuromuscular control interfaces, assessing tissue characteristics in rehabilitation, as well as in developing new biocompatible materials. To register ultrasound images of the research area, the linear ultrasound transducer under pressure control is displaced with a robotic system along the upper third of the forearm. This area is typically used in applying the biosensor systems. Dependences of the soft tissue thicknesses and cross-section areas and the Young's modulus values for the forearm muscles at rest and during contraction were obtained with the healthy volunteers. They made it possible to identify the soft tissues structure and functioning in more detail. The approach proposed in this work contributes to creating more efficient bionic devices and the personalized medical solutions.
