Construction of Automated Traffic Control Systems for Ground Rail Urban Electric Transport
The article highlights the key considerations for building up automated traffic control systems for ground rail passenger transport. The authors have substantiated the necessity for developing the principles of building up these systems through new approaches that take into account the peculiarities of the urban electric transport operation, based on the modern system-synergetic methodology for describing a sophisticated operating and engineering system of urban electric transport. To meet this challenge, it is proposed using the concept of “levels of movement construction,” which makes it possible to represent the tram movement as a complex process consisting of five (5) levels (sub-processes), built under the hierarchy of particular specific tasks to be solved in the overall process. Some automation tasks for each level are considered, and the expected technical and economic benefits gained from implementing an integrated system of automated tram traffic are reviewed.
