Design of Mid-Infrared Graphene Optical Modulators and Detectors with Gigahertz Bandwidth on Suspended Silicon Waveguides

We use experimental material parameters to design mid-infrared graphene optical modulators and detectors integrated on suspended silicon waveguides with 3 dB bandwidth in the gigahertz range. Our results demonstrate how graphene may bridge the speed gap between group IV and III-V mid-infrared integrated photonics.

Abstract

We use experimental material parameters to design mid-infrared graphene optical modulators and detectors integrated on suspended silicon waveguides with 3 dB bandwidth in the gigahertz range. Our results demonstrate how graphene may bridge the speed gap between group IV and III-V mid-infrared integrated photonics.
