Approach to Assessing Electrical Impedance of Microcirculation: A Case Study

The paper is devoted to the application of electrical impedance technology for assessing microcirculatory bed perfusion in surgical settings. The study is based on the analysis of a clinical case, which allowed to study the effectiveness and prospects of the electrical impedance method in comparison with laser Doppler flowmetry, which is the standard for non-invasive microcirculation monitoring. The forehead skin was chosen as the study area due to its accessibility and the absence of large great vessels, which minimizes the influence of systemic hemodynamics. Experimental data were obtained from disposable electrodes by tetrapolar measurements. A significant change in the baseline impedance under the influence of injected anesthetics was shown, which indicates the ability of impedance monitoring to record dynamic changes in blood filling in the microcirculatory network.
