Efficient Cryptography-based Multipath Routing Scheme for Wireless Sensor Networks in IoT Applications

Due to the rapid development of the Internet of Things (IoT), the application areas of WSN has immensely increased, including smart cities, healthcare and environmental monitoring. For proper data flow, resource consumption, and extension of the network’s lifespan, these networks make use of sophisticated routing strategies. The paper proposes an Efficient Cryptography-Based Multipath Routing policy (ECBMR) designed for WSNs dedicated to IoT. Its main object is to improve the network performance and the reliability of data transmission. The goal is achieved by applying cryptographic techniques to multipath routing which improves the PDR and the referee’s networks longevity. The paper aims to suggest an ECBMR strategy for WSNs. The objective is to boost network performance as well as data broadcast reliability by incorporating cryptographic practices with multipath routing. The recommended technique is assessed against EFMRP and MRGA, exhibiting better PDR and prolonged network longevity. The experiments carried out using EFMRP and MRGA as benchmarks show that ECBMR has significantly better metrics. In over 200 testing replicas, ECBMR obtains a 92.1% PDR at the 20 iteration mark and drops to 85.2% at 200 iterations, while EFMRP and MRGA drop from 82.1% to 74.3% and 86.2% to 78% respectively. Additionally, the PDR clearly correlates with the longevity extending the span to 540 seconds at 200 nodes, well beyond the 430 and 460 seconds for EFMRP and MRGA. The results of this research demonstrate that the multipath algorithm allows for secure, efficient, and trusted communications in WSNs, making ECBMR a viable option for IoT applications.
