Gas Turbine Vibration Analysis Using Polar Orbital Analysis
Gas turbines play crucial roles in power generation and industrial applications, where mechanical faults can cause costly downtime. Vibration analysis is among the most common condition monitoring techniques applied to rotating machinery for fault detection and diagnosis. Among these advanced vibration monitoring methods, polar orbital analysis is a powerful tool in the elucidation of rotor dynamics by plotting rotor displacement in polar coordinates. This paper aims to examine the effectiveness of polar orbit analysis in diagnosing common gas turbine problems based on experimental data by analyzing the shape, size, and evolution of orbit plots. Case studies from industrial applications demonstrate that polar orbital analysis enhances fault detection accuracy. The findings highlight its role in enhancing reliability and efficiency in gas turbine operations over traditional techniques
