Simulation Modeling of Trolley Busbar Line Operation Modes

The paper presents a simulation model of a trolley busbar line developed by the authors, which allows for evaluation of thermal and electrical modes of operation. The problem's significance lies in the fact that trolley busbars are used in various ambient temperatures, including those in closed rooms. In this case it is necessary to predict the heating temperature of both the conductive part of the busbar, and the protective insulating sheath, as well as to estimate the value of the drop to the end farthest from the supply point. The modeling process was carried out using the Comsol software package. The model's accuracy was confirmed by the use of the results of laboratory tests on the industrial sample of the busbar conductor, which was exposed to a long-term current load. The results of temperature distribution in the volume of copper and steel busbar conductors, as well as in the protective sheath made of PVC material at ambient temperatures of 20°C and 30°C, for different current loads are presented in the paper. Based on the calculated data for different materials, the calculation of voltage losses at different load power factors, as well as the determination of the active and reactive resistance of the busbar conductor, taking into account the influence of temperature conditions. The authors' method for calculating the temperature mode of trolley busbars is the foundation for the development of automated design systems that take into account different operating conditions and the material used for conductor materials.
