Evolution of the Software Development Methodologies
The paper considers the main software life cycle models operation and the software development methodologies. The most well-known software life cycle models and methodologies are analyzed, they include classic structural, proprietary object-oriented, standardized, hybrid corporate and the agile methodologies. The paper provides a retrospective structured analysis of evolution in the software life cycle models and the software development methodologies. Chronological order graphical diagrams of the cycle model evolution and the software development methodologies are constructed and analyzed illustrating their main inherent relationships. Study results are presented in four separate evolutions: software life cycle models; classic structural, object-oriented and standardized methodologies; corporate methodologies; and the agile methodologies evolution. Study results would help the managers to ensure informed selection of a methodology to be used in the project.
