Initiatives in Browser Privacy Enhance the Internet Advertising Market Monopolization and Infringe user Privacy by Spreading the Web Fingerprinting
To address the issue of user tracking online, legislators are introducing legal restrictions for the website owners, while the browser developers are creating technical methods to counteract this challenge. One such solution is limiting the third-party cookies use. In the beginning of 2024, these restrictions were implemented in the widely used Google Chrome browser. However, this article indicates that ensuring user privacy in the popular proprietary browsers remains a secondary concern for the companies developing these browsers, as they prioritize promoting their proprietary services and generating revenue from the advertising. This article expresses concern on the increasing use of the web fingerprinting techniques by the ad networks and recommendation services to overcome restrictions potentially leading to even more serious privacy violations in the Internet.
