An Improved Voltage Regulator for a Radar Transmitting Module with Long Duration Signals

In radars with active electronically scanned arrays the transmitting module is a pulse load for the power supply. In this paper we present a description of the operation of a 1 kW hysteretic voltage regulator as part of the pulse load power supply for the radar transmitting module with long duration signals. Voltage regulator waveform with efficiency greater than 90% provides a relatively complete discharge of the capacitor energy storage during the spacing of signal. This allows to significantly improve the mass and size characteristics of the transmitting module. Variants of practical implementation of hysteretic voltage regulators are proposed. The results of experimental testing of the developed voltage regulators are presented. The results of the research formed the basis for the making of voltage regulator prototype.
